Formerly Feral Friday

Last night Tom went to bed and I stayed downstairs to finish Night Watch, that brilliant book by Terry Pratchett.

Everything was peaceful. The TV was off. There was no music playing. The main light was off too and I was reading in a puddle of lamp light. Target and Au were sitting on their rug, cleaning their faces and paws. Then the peace was shattered by a low growl from outside.

Target and Au froze. Target's eyes were huge. (see pic!)

They peeked out of the window and saw Yow Yow stalking up the drive. Yow Yow is a nice boy to me, but our resident stray tomcat puts the fear of god into all the kitties in the street.

I stood up, waved Yow Yow away and closed the door. Au was so relieved that he rubbed my ankles and gave me an approving yik-yik-yik. Target placed himself at my ankles and followed me upstairs. Only when he was firmly placed on my pillow did he relax.

It's just as well Au and Target don't live on the street anymore. Our formerly ferals are HUGE cowards!

Forgot: Katz Tales is out in the print version of the Malaysian national daily, The Star Weekender section tomorrow. Check it out!

That's such a cute photo of Au and Target!

And our former feral (Tasha) refuses to go outside - ever! We could leave the door wide open and she would not step out. We say she's "been there, done that" (and knows better!)

Hahaha, former strays do become cowards. They look rather funny at certain sounds with eyes wide opened and ears flicked back. At least Au and Target did not scurry off to hide. Mine do. :)

Dennis freaks out a bit when he hears the coyotes howling outside -- I suspect they menaced him and his siblings while they were lost out in the desert!

Cute picture of Au and Target! It's interesting that they don't want anything to do with the outside. They know they live a great life inside!

scaredy cats by choice.

Target and Au are inside and outside cats. We only close doors every now and then when Yow Yow and other invaders are poised to attack!

Sassie stays in the house all the time. She never even tries to get out. Peeve stays mostly outside by choice. We put him into the house and he wants back out. Usually at 3:00 a.m.!
Target and Au look so cute in that picture.

They really are a handsome pair, arent they? Well cats adept o their new environment fairly quick, and love the sanctuary of their familiar home grounds. Those who found their sanctuary are so blessed, and we really feel fo those homeless ones...

Those are some faces and wide eyes the kitties have! I think I would have wide eyes too if I heard Yow Yow also, and did not know it was Yow Yow.

I don't blame your boys. When my friend's Kitty went out to play, she was attacked by the neighbourhood bully, a big bruiser of a calico. Yep, a girl bully! The calico bit Kitty's rump so badly that it needed stitches and antibiotics and kitty was very sick with infection for a week. We were so afraid we were going to lose her. Then Eugene's cat Pearl went out to play outside a neighbour's home and was attacked by the street bully, a grey tom. He bit and pulled her hind foot so viciously that Pearl lost two claws. And Pearl is spayed so we really don't know what the bully is after.
