Au went to the vet yesterday. His liver is still acting up, but as he's eating we're not too worried. However, the doc recommended a change of liver supplements. The old stuff was a pill; this stuff is granules.
Au refuses to eat food that has been dosed, and there's no way I'm going to mix this stuff with water and syringe it into him as I don't want him stressed out.
Instead, I am making up my own capsules. I bought jelly capsules from the pharmacy (regular places sell them as do Chinese medicine shops) and I fill them myself.
1. Fold bit of newspaper.
2. Pour grains into paper.
3. Open capsule.
4. Tip meds into capsule.
5. Close
Au takes these capsules easily and Target is so convinced that the senior cat is getting treats, that I've had to hide the meds inside my glasses case.
Apart from the liver thing, Au is in good form. He sang all the way to the vet and all the way back so we were both exhausted by the whole experience but a few hours later he was eating, drinking, and his usual self. Still, purr for us, OK?

Paws crossed that Au continues to do well - I can't believe Target believes those are treats. That sounds like something Boodie would think!
You are very patient and Au is lucky to have you. Our purrs!
Sending lots of love and healing purrs to Au. How long will he need to be on the pills?
I can imagine poor Au singing all the way there and back! We are all putting our paws together in prayer for Au over here and purring for him. Those are gelatine-free starch capsules, we get them from the Chinese drugstores so we can make our own herbal pills.
I'm sending love and good energies to sweet Au!

Good for Au for being cooperative about the capsules, and for you for making them yourself. Funny Target: I suppose one could fill some with crumbled cat treats for him? Then next time he DOES need a capsule with medicine, he would be easy to give it to?
We're glad Au still is eating and hope the change in supplements helps. Of course we're still purring and sending Light to him, to you all!
We are doing big purrs for Au - what a good boy for taking his meds so well. Did we hear the mention of chickhen - nom nom.
Luv Hannah and Lucy xx xx
Big purrs sent from North Wales! I have just spoken with my 4 fur babies about taking tablets and how wonderful Au is at taking them. Of course being cats they listen when they want to ;)
Ah, yes, our human do this too when we have too many different pills to swallow. It is better to swallow 1 big pill and several half pills.
Our human sings with us when we go to the vet and back! :)
That was smart !!!
That you can make your own medicincapsules :)
Glad to hear that Au is eating OK and is in good form apart from that stupid liver :(
Sending purrs all the way from Sweden :)
My sisters and I are sending Au lots of purrs too! That is so cool you made those pills like that!
Purrs x 10000s to Au! I wish I was as creative when I was feeding 'tut tut' for more than 3 years everyday
It's hard to have a special needs kitteh, but we're glad he is doing very well, overall.
Wow, that is very impressive, making your own capsules. We're continuing to send good healing thoughts for Au!
That's an excellent idea ! and fortunately you need a glass case, what would you do without glasses ??
purrs for you au. we hope you feel better and get rid of all this liver woes.

This really is a good idea. Thank you for sharing it with us. I hope you had a great day. Blessings...Mary
The ants tried to carry my cats food away over the weekend. They definitely didn't appreciate the extra protein. Glad Au's form is good.
i think mommy needs to email me over to your house for meds!!!
glad to hear that Au likes the new capsules. Lots of purrs to Au and Target.
Wow, we are very impressed that you made your own cat pills!

That was a smart thing to do! Glad he's doing well! Sending hugs and good thoughts for continued healing for Au.
Big purrs sent from Germany! My cats wouldn't touch the food that has been dosed either, thanks for this neat idea.
What a great idea those capsules are, I had no idea you could buy them. Purrs of course for Au and his continued good health.
au willingly takes capsues.. lol.. that's so obedient of him... haha... get well soon...
LOL at Target! I'm glad Au takes his pills well.
Our mom used these gelcaps and filled them with medicines for a cat that came before us. You can get the gelcaps on line too...all different sizes...and fairly inexpensive.
We hope Au is doing better on his new meds!!
Hope you recover fast!
Yes, that is a good way to get meds down! There is even a company in the USA that makes chicken flavored capsules, but the bacon flavor only comes in a dog size--no fair!!

We are purring for Au!!
Our Mom hides our pills in tiny little capsules, sometimes we find them ^..^
Happy Wednesday!

Definitely purring for you!
Au you are such a good mancat to help your own recovery by taking your pills. I am visiting for the first time after seeing your comment and read through some of your ordeal. Purring for strenght and health.
PURRRS, Willow
treats! LOL!
glad Au is doing so well!
puuurrrs!
Oh yes, purrs from us coming your way Au...big time! Keep up the good work with eating all that good stuff you get Au!
This is a BRILLIANT idea! Thanks for sharing, now I know what to do if I have to feed lots of pills if any of my kitties are sick....just grind all into powder and pour it inside the jelly capsule!
Wow! What dedication you have! I notice cats are easily amused by small, oval-shaped things. I can't leave my half-boiled eggs uncracked in a bowl on the table. I will find them cracked open on the floor later.
This is a cool idea and should I say brilliant one. Thanks for sharing your thoughts to us.4rx
