Target Has A Bath

We wash our kitties very seldom because they do a great job by themselves but sometimes a fuzz face needs a helping hand from a basin of suds.

Target yesterday went out to play in our neighbour's mini construction site, and came home with his tail full of tar.

In the past we've shown you Scoop, the kitty who passed before, doing his famous octopus spread, and Au's classic get-me-outta-here look. This time we went all out and captured Target on screen.

Enjoy!

Scoop does his famous "octopus spread"

If you are new to bathing a kitty, note that it's useful to:
  • Have a sink of soapy water, jug of rinsing water and towel all prepared.
  • Don't have an audience.  Your pet is nervous already.
  • Keep talking quietly all the way to reassure your pet.
  • Hold firmly but don't squeeze.
  • Hold cat close to you and have the bits that need washed in the water.  Don't try to hold your kitty in the centre of the sink/bath as being out in the open in water is scary for cats.
  • In case of emergency, use the "mummy-cat" grip in the neck to establish control and remove claws from T-shirt etc - but not for more than a few seconds!
Good luck!

Well, we hope after all that the tar is off your tail! That did not look like fun but you were very brave Target!

Au behave rather well at his bath. Still love Scoop's octopus spread! LOL!

You're braver than me! We gave Posky a bath when we first got him from the rescue centre as he was filthy, but Pepper and Charlie have never had baths, I just wouldn't even know where to start with Charlie!!!

That's what Target gets for getting tar in his fur! The same thing happened with Binga at our old house when my human was having the balcony deck redone - she rushed out in the middle of the work and got tar on her paws. Not only did she have to have a bath - she also got a cone for a day!

Holy cod! You were excellent, Target! (So was your mom!) There is NO WAY our human ever would get us near a sink full of water, we can promise you that!

OK, my human's laughed a lot with Scoop's photo! I tell them that there is nothing funny about a bath, but they kept on laughing.

Poor kitties. We would not let anyone give us a bath. We barely let anyone pick us up. So you were a good boy to even let it happen. Take care.

Admiral Hestorb said...

YOU are SO brave. You Target- and your mommy and daddy- for bathing you. I would scream the house down. My sister who was before me was bathed twice. And she, at 5 pounds had the strength of 5 Klingon's. It was awful.

Admiral Hestorb said...

Mommy and I watched your ordeal Target and what a good BOY you were..really you were.

Those pictures are too funny! I used to have a cat who loved getting in the shower with me. He would be dripping wet and then would go lay on a towel that I would lay out for him.

Oh no! purrs to Target. stay away from that construction site, kitties don't mix well with tar! Our last cat actually loved water & would lay in the sink until someone turned it on.
thanks for the purrs to get well!

Poor Target. But it looks like he (and everyone else) came through it OK.

We use "mummy cat" sometimes for things like claw trims - we call it "kitty burrito" here :)

We love the term 'mummy cat grip'...at first we had an image of a mummy, all bandaged up, holding a cat like Frankenstein...then we realized you were saying mommy cat and so we knew you meant by the scruff, hahameow
