Whoohoo For Holidays!

Can't believe that 2012 is almost over - where did it go?

We don't celebrate holidays in our house - isn't it shocking? - but we plan to take some time off next week so we can sit around and watch our favourite films, read the books that have been piling up, and indulge in some seriously scrumptious cooking.

For those of you who do celebrate we're wishing you a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Joyous Kwanzaa and Happy Holidays.

We'll post on our Katz Tales facebook page, we'll visit you all again, and we'll be back to posting regularly in the New Year.

Meow and purry furry headbutts from Au, Target and Guido!

Our Sofa

Remember we got a new sofa?  Turns out it's not so much ours as Au, Target and Guido's! T-man and me sit wherever we can get in some bum space.

We're writing another book so we're a bit out of it at the moment but we should be round to visit efurryone in the next few days.  Meow!

Target Speaks: We Tabby Cats Get Awards!

Mouse over me to see my secret thoughts!

Target here!

After all the sadness of last week, we have some good news.  We
are now officially members of the Tabby Cat Club!  We off there tomorrow to talk about our favourite toys.

For the rest things have been a bit odd here.  We've been doing a lot of late night writing.  It's exhausting sleeping on the desk being on desk duty all day and half the night.  I'm broadening my vocabulary though: I know 5 synonyms for moan!

I think mummy cat is writing about food because the title is Chocolate: An Erotic Romance In Siberia. She picked a new name too, Storm Chase!  You can buy it on Kindle for 99 cents.

I haven't read it because I'm only 5 years old.  Apparently I have to be a senior cat to enjoy it.  Au has read it but he won't say what it's about.  He just sniggers. Hmmm.

Anyway, we also got the Bring on the Nip award from Basil the Bionic Cat that is all about partying!

All we have to do is post the award, credit the Pawesome Kitty that nominated us and pass it along to other deserving kitties!

Thanks Basil! It's purrfect for our post-publishing party.

The Super Sweet Award came from Musings of Crazy Cat Lady.  She wants to know about our taste in sweets.

That's easy: the answer to that is Chocolate!

I know chocolate is bad for cats but I still don't see why I can't read the book. It's not like I lick my paws after turning the page or anything.

Well, I'm passing these awards to all of you who visit us.  See you at the Tabby Cat Club!

Guido Thinking Out Of The Box

Hey, thanks for the messages.  Our small crisis was that my PC had a corrupted drive - and as I work from home, this is potentially disastrous.  I managed to rescue and restore it.

Roll your mouse over Guido to see what he's thinking
The sad news that came after was that my father-in-law, Louis O'Daniel, died.  He was a very nice man and I'm sorry to say we didn't get to know each other very well because we live on different continents.

After that sad news, our fridge died and then the iron and last night my computer screen.

It's not all doom and gloom because we've also received some awards.  We'll post about that on Monday - and hopefully all the other news will be positive then too.

In the meantime, here's a picture of Guido thinking out of the box.  This picture is also the subject of Katz Tales, out tomorrow in The Star, print version only.  If you're in Malaysia, or you buy the e-edition, enjoy!

Target: Kind Of Busy

We're having a small crisis and so we can post for a few days.  We cats are propping up mummycat and T-man and we'll be back in a few days with all the gossip.

In the meantime, here's a picture of me helping Au eat yummy steak.  Food always cheers me up and I hope it makes you smile too.

Time For Squizzles

It's monsoon season and for the first time in years we're having a proper rainy season.  It pours most days, the roads are flooded, and the cats sit moodily on the outside bench in the porch, sulking because it's too rainy for cats to go out and play.

Guido has decided the best option is to load up on ear and chin squizzles.   He parks himself on T-man, pushes his face into T-man's hands, and purrs.

He pulls the best silly faces and keeps us all amused by the baby kitten meows he uses to bully T-man into keeping up the squizzling for hours.

Also, I finished my erotic novel yesterday.  Now a few days of editing and fixing it up and it should be all go.  I'll let you know when it's out!

Our Smutty Week

I'm having a go at writing erotica and Target is helping me by being my Inspiration Cat.

He usually lies on the desk and helps out by pushing the F1 button whenever I look stressed. However, he's now taking things to a different level.

He was late to work yesterday and when I called to see where he was, he meowed from the spare bedroom.  My little cat has discovered that this room has a whole big comfy bed with a fan and no cats claiming posession.

Isn't he sweet?  I was thinking that if I were writing a different sort of smut, one with paws and tails, this might make a juicy cover.

I should be done in about a week.  Will let you know how it goes and where you can see the book.  Meow!

Blog Break!

We're going to be absent for a week because we're writing a novel.

However, our Katz Tales page will be active with updates as always - although we won't be doing any Facebook visiting either.

See you next week!

Raw Feeding

My column Dog Talk today in The Star is all about raw feeding for dogs.  It includes information from vets and dog experts who are for it, against it and on the fence.  It also includes an interview with Siew Yen from Furrenz who makes and sells raw food in Malaysia.

If you have a dog, check it out!

I should say here that I am on the fence about raw food.

I feed Target and Guido raw beef - but I wouldn't feed them raw chicken or other meat as I would worry about salmonella.  The beef they get is top quality, carpaccio and steak tartare quality, and I eat it raw too. I would feed them sashami fish but it's too expensive.

I don't believe anyone should prepare all food for their pets at home, unless they are qualified animal nutritionists.  There is just too much juggling that goes into making food that has the right ingredients in the right proportions.

Because of this concern, I feed my pets manufactured food too.  Biscuits which I think help clean teeth, and quality wet food that has lots of taurine and all that other stuff that's essential for kitties.

Contamination and dodgy factories means that I never buy food or treats made in China.  I usually opt for products made in Thailand.  Touch wood it's been OK so far.

As a caveat, I have to say that if my pets had allergies, or if Thailand started having pet food scandals, I would rethink all this - and probably end up taking a course in pet nutrition.

I'd be curious to discover what you all think about this issue.

See you Monday for Target's Gotcha Day?

Here's Yen who has her point of view talking about her raw food.

Sore Paw

A few days ago, Target scraped his paw pads on his front right paw and his back left paw.  Most of it has healed but the back paw still has a small sore spot - right between the toes.

After a morning's snoopervising on my desk, Target got up to come for lunch and limped.  I panicked.

I toted him to the bedroom, turned him on his back and checked for broken bones, swelling, heat and so on.

Target whimpered beautifully and let me prod and poke him with a martyr-like air.

I'm relieved to tell you it's nothing.  It's a tiny raw patch about 3mm across.  But I'm sure it hurts.  So Target is tucked up on the sofa, and I am going to hover over him for a while.

See you on Facebook!

Work and Play

I am working on a new Katz Tales book that I hope to bring out on 22 October - which is also Target's Gotcha Day.

It will star Au and detail his journey back to health after being struck with FIV.

Our star is currently enjoying himself.  He is trying to see if he can eat his own weight in cold cuts.

Meow!  See you soon.

Guido Is Cute

Guido is growing up fast.  He's out and about all day, playing in the garden and hanging over the fence to talk to our neighbours whom he loves and who adore him.

His other hobbies are table surfing where he starts in the ferns, races in through the front door and then up the steps and into the air to sail onto the dining table. He then slides along the antique shawl that covers it, crashing into the wall.

Occasionally stuff crashes onto the floor, but that's all just part of the fun.

His other joy is chasing our fat little Target up and down the stairs and round and round the ferns. The two of them run about like furry little maniacs, squealing at the tops of their voices as they tear around corners.

By 8PM Guido is trashed and ready for dinner and cuddles. He purrs himself to sleep and by 4AM he's ready to start again.

He wakens us at 4 with meows, at 430 with purrs and at 5 with demands for cuddles.

We love our little cat but the early start is beginning to wear on us. Any ideas on how to advance his alarm clock to a decent 6AM?

Au Is Fine

Three days ago Au woke me up just before 5 in the morning to say he was feeling sick.  I stroked his back while he yakked.

He didn't have a fever so I let him sleep all day.  That evening he asked for food, and then he yakked up his dinner - in two goes.

As Au is 14 years old and I am a fusspot, I held his paw most of the night that followed.  In the morning he seemed perfectly ok and he asked for food.  So I rushed off to the market at dawn to buy fresh chicken.
Au snoozling

While it roasted, Au demanded breakfast saying he was STARVING.  I gave him a sliver of ham and watched him anxiously.  He held it down.

When the chicken was ready, he ate and stalked about moaning about how hungry he was when I made him wait for seconds.  Then he had thirds and later fourths, all without any signs of being sick.

Au's a funny old boy.  He's a bit stand-offish sometimes but when he's ill he comes straight to me.  And now he's better, he's still grateful.  He came to say hello to me at 1 o'clock this morning and for a moment I thought he was feeling bad again.  But he just gave me a furry purry headbutt and went to sleep.

I love my old fuzzy.

Target says Don't Be a Fur Brain! Live Strong

People say I am a fur brain but there are a few things I am furry certain about:

Truth: People don't get cancer because they are evil.

Truth: People don't get cancer because their family has done something evil.

I know this because as Mummy Cat says, "The devil is slow to take his own."

It's true. Just look at the bad people who live forever!

Nobody knows what causes cancer. Nobody. Not yet. But they can cure cancer.

We have more than a dozen friends who have beaten breast, prostate and bowel cancer.

Another important truth is this:

Prayers and bomohs can't cure you. Doctors can cure you!

Wildcat in Moscow
Con artists who promise miracle cures are out for one thing: they want to steal all your cat biscuits and treats money.

If you or someone you love has cancer, find help and support near you by calling the National Cancer Society of Malaysia at 03-2698 7300 and http://www.cancer.org.my

Calling early can mean fewer treatments!  In bad cases it can also save a life!

Today is Livestrong day where bloggers unite to inspire and empower people affected by cancer.  Please share this message and support people who suffer from this problem.

Flump or Yogi?

This is one of Guido's favourite poses.  We can't figure out if he's a Flump or if this is some kind of kitty yoga.

If it's yoga then he's a master because he often falls asleep in this position.  Or maybe he's meditating to another plane?

PS we have a surprise coming up for Livestrong Day on October 2nd so be sure to visit!

We make sure that all food is up to standard.

Guido: On Guard

Kitties, I have to talk to you about Duty.

It is furry nice to Snooze on the sofa, and to Command in the kitchen, but a cat also has to Do His Duty.

Basically, it's up to us to make sure that no Intruders get to our Pets.

Intruders may shed furs all over Your Pet, steal your food, or even sleep in your cardboard box (Seriously! This happened to a friend of our friend!).

In order to make sure my Pets are not Bothered By Intruders, I make sure I do a Total Security Sweep of the street efurry morning and evening.

You can see me here On Duty.  If you look at it with your mouse, you can see my Secret Message.

If an Intruder comes, I will run into the house shouting MEOW! and my Pets will follow me safely indoors, saying, "Oh Guido, is it scary? Are you OK?"

Of course I'm ok. I am simply Doing My Duty.

Tabby Cat's Second Trip To The Vet

Tabby cat at the vet.
It took Tabby three days to forgive me for taking her to the vet and the day after she did, I betrayed her trust again and took her back to the vet.

She had he stitches out and her second injection against mites.

Tabby is a nice girl though; she headbutted me at breakfast this morning and purred.  I think she's feeling good.

Next time she has to have her vaccinations.  I'll leave it a week or two because she's had quite a hit on her with the op and the jabs.  Luckily there is no illness in our community at present so fingers crossed she'll be ok.

Thanks gang for making this possible by buying the Katz Tales ebooks!

Thanks! First Cat Spayed Thanks To Katz Tales eBook

When my first book came out, Katz Tales, Living Under The Velvet Paw, I gave 10% of my take to Friends Furry Farm. It wasn't much, as I only got 10% myself.

When I decided to try out e-books, I decided to spend all of it on spaying and vaccinating strays.

As I've said before, I'm not a rescuer but I do feed the 6 or so poor souls dumped on our back doorstep twice a day. So far it's been out of my budget to do much more for them.

The 3 Katz Tales e-books have so far netted US$38.72 of which I get to keep about 70%.  I'm getting my first cheque at the end of this month, and although it covers about 50% of what I need for a spay and vaccination deal, I thought I'd go for it.

Thanks to all of you who have helped me so far by buying the books and promoting them!

Yesterday this stray girl (I call her Tabby. Inspired, huh?) was spayed and given an anti-mite injection - the mite treatment was free.  Next week she gets her second dose of mite stuff and her first vaccination.  We spayed first as pregnancy is our top concern and there is currently no rampant disease in our area.  Crossed fingers.

If you want to support this very small TNR effort, please:

Visit Smashwords, download the free Katz Tales ebook and review it.  If I get lots of good reviews, my books go to the top of the list.

Buy and review Katz Tales Au And Target The Early Years and Katz Tales The Adventures Of Scoop and Au from Smashwords or Barnes and Noble or look for them on iTunes.  Price is US$1.99 each.

Please pass the word to others.  You can Share the post on the Katz Tales Facebook Fan Page or leave me your email address and I'll send you an email that you can forward.

And if you know anyone who wants to do an interview, please volunteer me - or better, still, Au, Target and Guido.

Meow from all of us!

Napoleonic Paw

This is Target looking all relaxed.  It's his favourite comfy pose; the one we call Napoleonic Paw.

We've got tonnes of work the next few days so we'll be visiting you all on Wednesday.

In the meantime, Guido has posted on Petster on the feline debate what status human people occupy in cat society.  And don't forget to download our Katz Tales books, one of which is free.

Meowy Monday everyone!
