LIM: Welcome To The War

On Monday morning 3 bombs went off in downtown Kuala Lumpur. Five people were injured.

I grew up with terrorism: the IRA in the UK and ETA in Spain, so it always bothered me when overseas visitors say things like, "Why don't you talk to them?"

My reply has always been, "Why negotiate with a coward who gets his kicks out of killing and hurting complete strangers who happen to be in pubs, schools and supermarkets?"

Until a week ago, many of my Malaysian friends were all for negotiating with terrorists. Some have been a bit superior about the fact that terrorism isn't (or wasn't!) a factor here. They claimed that bombing is alien to this culture, glossing over people like Azahari Husin and Noordin Mohammed Top, Malaysian terrorists who orchestrate bombings abroad (Indonesia in their case).

After Monday's incident I haven't heard a single one of them suggest we negotiate or even try to find out what these KL bombers want. They're now singing my tune.

I think the world will be a better place when all of us condemn all terrorist bombings no matter who conducts them or where, but I can't say I'm happy about how we all got on the same page.

This has been a very sad week.

So frustrating that we all have to learn the hard way.

Sadly, you cannot talk to terrorists,They are not listening and do not want to listen. They only care about their own selves.
Please be safe. Hugs & purrs!!

It is very sad, indeed. I hope that you can stay safe. On another note, it is a lucky thing that Herman and I like the same foods.

Unfortunately, now we all live in a world that terrorism is possible at home. Very sad state of affairs. Be safe.

Wanna make a wild guess who the *terrorists* were in THIS case? How do you ask those in power to negotiate with themselves?

when the world gets more and more desperate, terrorism can happen at anywhere and anytime...

We're sorry to hear of the bombs - violence isn't the answer but the bombers don't hear these words when said to them - war is met by war and things will not improve until they see sense which could take until eternity.

I guess it's a difficult thing to comprehend if you've never experienced terrorism at close hand. I was in Birmingham at the time of the IRA Birmingham "pub bombings" in 1974 and it was terrifying even though I was too young to fully understand, but it certainly informed my views. I also understand that people sometimes get desperate, but no, violence is never a solution. Deccy's Mum x
