A few weeks ago ProDiet conducted a tour of the factory where their wet cat food is made.
Basically, frozen tuna is defrosted, steam-cooked and cleaned by hand. The white meat is made into products for human consumption while the dark meat is used for pet food. In the pet food section the fish has supplements added in powder form, and is then packaged along with jelly, gravy or other moisture.
Pet food is made to The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) standards.
See you all next week with updates on how Guido is devising new ways of getting us out of bed in the morning and a word from Au about getting the most out of your survunt.

That wasn't so bad. But sometimes things are best left unseen. Like shenanigins in restaurant kitchens and meat packing plants. I know, I'm a whimp with my head in the ground. My cats give the post a dew claw's up!
VERY interesting! Thanks for sharing....
Buster, Sam and Rudy would probably enjoy a tour of that place!! lol Thanks so much for your well wishes on my Etsy shop!
Hugs to all of you,
Cindy, Buster, Rudy and Sam

You know, CBC's Marketplace did a story on pet food several years ago. Made AAFCO approved food out of old leather and motor oil. Seriously.
It's all rather scary, IMO, no matter what the food or where it's being made!
So nice that they allow tours and photos!! From all that I have read about misleading and misdirection when it comes to food processing, it is nice to see someone so open about it.
I hope they sent home samples :)
Much cleaner than I would have expected a pet food factory to be! Hmmmm....
