Guido Is Cute

Guido is growing up fast.  He's out and about all day, playing in the garden and hanging over the fence to talk to our neighbours whom he loves and who adore him.

His other hobbies are table surfing where he starts in the ferns, races in through the front door and then up the steps and into the air to sail onto the dining table. He then slides along the antique shawl that covers it, crashing into the wall.

Occasionally stuff crashes onto the floor, but that's all just part of the fun.

His other joy is chasing our fat little Target up and down the stairs and round and round the ferns. The two of them run about like furry little maniacs, squealing at the tops of their voices as they tear around corners.

By 8PM Guido is trashed and ready for dinner and cuddles. He purrs himself to sleep and by 4AM he's ready to start again.

He wakens us at 4 with meows, at 430 with purrs and at 5 with demands for cuddles.

We love our little cat but the early start is beginning to wear on us. Any ideas on how to advance his alarm clock to a decent 6AM?

PS to see Guido's secret thoughts, roll your mouse over his pictures!

Aren't you a cutie? You look very pleased with yourself!

You could give him a heavy-duty play session right before bed, like one that really exhausts him (or as much as you can exhaust him - I gather he has more energy than you!). Then reward him with a small treat. Doing this right before bed should help him sleep in later. It is worth a try!

Hi Ellen, hmmm...we only have peeps and dogs in this house at the moment but my dad used to have a cat, so I asked him and he said: (1) throw a new catnip filled toy into the hallway, (2) close the door, (3) go back to sleep :) Good night Ellen...

Oh, you remind us of our houseguest, Gizmo! He tried to keep Teri up by digging up the carpet under the door, Now she plays with him every night before bed and gives him his Greenie treats. But we don't think that will work on resetting your alarm. Maybe you could get a feeder on a timer and have it go off (in another room) about the time he wants scritches in the wee hours...

To stop our nocturnal thundering herd of wildebeasts our Mommy now includes calming cat treats and wes don't hiss at each other and we sleeps until our hairy slobbery sister gets up at 6:30 (Which is when Mommy needs to gets up).

I love Guido's secret thoughts! All your ginger boys are cute. Even Au, although he wants to be a manly man-cat and will not tolerate being called cute. I love the way Guido smiles when you give him ear squizzles.

We want to see a video of that dining table slide and crash. LOL.

As for letting the humans in our lives sleep in till 6AM? Are you kidding? We make our mom get up by 4AM every day of the year, holiday or not. She keeps saying she's too old for this, but she's been doing it for so many years that it's ingrained now. (Unfortunately, she says.)

Guido is so cute! How sweet he is to purr himself to sleep:-) I sometimes wake up in the midnight because Niko starts purring and wants skritching. I have no idea how to advance his alarm clock...haha.
Thank you for your comment and mentioning us on your facebook page! We are very flattered!

Maybe staying up and playing later in the evening will have him wake up later in the morning?

I agree with Sparkle and make the final play session of the night hunting for treats!

Those kittens! So cute and so much energy. A couple years & he'll sleep straight through. I leave out some dry food for those with the early morning munchies that can't wait until 6 am (normal breakfast time).

Hey Au, Hey Target, Hey Guido, Jet here. Hi Miss Ellen.

We enjoyed learning more about Guido. He looks like a sweet butterscotch candy!

What an active boy! Perhaps, as he gains maturity and years, he will slow down a tad and give you the extra hour or two you crave in the morning.

Mom asked me to share that... uh... when I joined the family, I politely woke Mom each morning at 5 a.m. She was accustomed to she and Koko waking at a decent 7. After 2 years, and an animal communicator (yes, she was THAT desperate...) I have properly trained her to alter her circadian rhythm to 5 a.m.! She takes a short nap from about 7:45 a.m. ish to 8:35 a.m. when she must rise and get ready for work!

Guido, you sound like our Two Two and Mahoney. They spend their days going as fast as they can up and down the halls etc. It also sounds like you do have a fun time and are enjoying your life. That is important. Take care.

Guido is sooooo cute! I would love to see him "table surfing!" lol My Rudy used to wake me up at 5:00am. gosh, I don't remember how I broke him of that habit...maybe he just outgrew it (that was a few years ago.) I think I just ignored him (hard to do, I know!) and he finally gave up and stopped it! Good luck!

Guido behaves like Arthur only he now sleeps longer and sometimes I have to wake him up (which I don't do of course) He eats dry food the whole night so he is not very hungry for breakfast.

Ellen,

When you unlock the secret of how to turn back Guido's clock PLEASE let me know. I'm normally up at 3:30 a.m. to do my blogging before heading off to work, but on the weekends I have a meowing kitty. There is no sleeping in at my house!
