Au Is Skinny

Here is Au with Target hanging out in the background.  We celebrate Au's birthday in April because we don't know exactly when he was born.  This year will be his 15th birthday.

Au is skinny and bit rickety around the paws.  But on the other hand, his fur is soft, his eyes bright and he's eating and drinking properly.  I police the tray he uses in the bathroom and his insides are working well too.

We've had a chest cold scare and a liver scare in the last month but he's recovered from both.  But still...I love my old Au meow so much, I find it hard to see him age. Funnily enough, I don't mind my own aging at all!

I see so many of our friends online getting older.  Any tips about keeping an old boy young?  If so, please share!

For those of you with a Kindle, Chocolate: An Erotic Romance in Siberia is free tomorrow on Tuesday 26th 2013, Pacific Time.  That's minus 8 Coordinated Universal Time.

Please do me a favour and Like the page if you take the book.  And if you really like it, recommend it to your friends.  Thanks!

That is a great question! We will do some research on tips for keeping kitty young for our new bloggie, Carmine's Orange Pages (http://carminesorangepages.blogspot.com).

It is very hard to watch our fur babies age. Jewel is 14 and has had one heck of a year.

I truly hope Au has many more good years with you!! He's such a cute boy :)

None of us have reached Au's age yet - the oldest is Binga and she is 12-1/2 - but we stay active and eat high quality, grain free food and so far we are all doing pretty well!

One of the cats who was here before us was a few days short of 20 when she had to go to Rainbow Bridge - she was still fence walking and climbing up onto the garage roof until the day before she passed. We think good food, lots of love, the freedom to do as they please and many cuddles helps them to age gracefully.

Au looks like a very healthy and happy guy! Our Forrest will be 18 in June....still doing very well!

Hmmm, M would like to know that too. Her first kitty lived to be 19 and was fed KD special diet because of stones in his urine. He lived the longest. The other kitties were around 12 - 14 and always at vet recommended kitty food. M says sometimes she thinks genes play a part in it also.

Au is adorable! I'm with you, it's hard to see our fur babies age...like when they have senior health condition and such. I think tips to keep young is good food and lots of love, which Au is already getting a lot :-)

My Kona is getting to be the same way; she'll be 16 sometime this spring. It's tough to see my formerly fiesty gal slow down--on the other hand she's never been more affectionate. I think you are doing fine by Au.

I can't believe Au is that "old". I cannot see my little Emma getting old, although she came to me at approx 2 years old (now 5 soon) and she was acting more like a respectable older dame than a kitty.

Au is still a youngster! I had my Bobo til he was 18 and he remained pretty active up until he became quite ill. They aren't as active as kittens, (obviously!) I think the most important thing for the senior kitties is to be sure their needs are being met, give them tons of scritches and tons of love, which I know you already do!

We had fun reading Chocolate (& we paid for it too). It is hard to see your kitties getting older, we don't know of anything that really helps with that. Just make sure they go to the vets yearly so anything they might develop is caught early (hopefully). Our mom doesn't like being the Potty Box Policeman. She still does it anyway, its her job by default.

Nellie will be 15 soon. She sleeps a lot, but she is still very playful and looks like a kitten. I wonder how she does it as she has always been a cat that has grabbed life by the horns!

Arthur too starts to have these signs, but each time I think he is getting old he starts to play and jumps around like an old elephant ! Not like a gracious cat !

Au is young at heart :-)

He looks happy and quite content for a senior citizen. You obviously see that he has everything he needs to age gracefully. Exercise might help. Our old girl loves to pounce and chase lengths of ribbon and she really gets into the game. She then rewards herself with a good long nap :-). I hope your week is off to a good start. Have a great day. Blessings...Mary

When my canine brother Murphy was in his senior years, we had to stop giving him hard treats, rawhide chews and high protein or high fat foods like egg yolk. I hear cod liver oil and evening primrose oil are good for our darlings in their golden years. I think Au is still handsome and charming. I want Au to live forever.

My sweetheart Tommie is going to be 15 in the Spring. Every now and then he has trouble jumping up on a chair or the bed and it breaks my heart. I know how you are feeling.

I think have to be watchful for changes, keep up with the vet visits, and love them. Sounds like you're doing everything possible.

Sammy is 19 now, and we've noticed him really slow down over the past year. It's difficult, but his quality of life is still good, so we just try to keep him as comfortable as possible, give him much love, and watch for any changes. We also get him regular checkups at the vet.

Au is still looking good, and it sounds like you are taking really great care of him.

We're glad to hear that Au is still with you after his health scares. I can imagine it must be hard to watch him age. I'm not ready yet to think about that for Luna, though I know I will have to.

Yes, it is so hard to watch our beloved pets age. Time passes so quickly with them. We hope Au continues to do well for his age!

Toby and me are now approaching 6. Seems like we just came to the Tomcat home yesterday. Our Buddy is 12. One of our Angels, Inky, stayed with us until 22. We got along well and he told us moderation and water were key. He drank all day long and it was just that he liked water. He also ate little and was rather thin. I do the same except the water. Pops is thinking of adding to our food so we are forced to hydrate. Purrs
