Au 1998 - 2013

Au passed away on Sunday evening at 530PM.  As you may know, Au was ill a month ago, and then recovered.

But a week ago, he wasn't feeling well again.  He was listless and didn't want to eat.  The vet gave him some meds, including an appetite spike, but Au just didn't want to eat more than a lick of milk or little bit of fish juice.

As Au has been at death's door several times in his life, we were hopeful.  But this time it wasn't to be.

He became weaker and weaker and on Saturday evening something changed in his eyes and body.  He wasn't suffering but we knew it wouldn't be long.  On Sunday he was still the same. We didn't want him to waken up in the middle of the night and suffer serious pain, so on Sunday evening we went to the vet.

Au fell asleep in my arms.  He wasn't afraid or worried.  It was very peaceful. We buried him next to Scoop in the garden that they both loved.  Target and Guido were there too.

Au was a wonderful cat, who really had a zest for life.  And rost chikkun.  And ham.  It was a privilege to be his survunt.

We're going to be a bit absent this week.  See you soon.

Hi Ellen and family, I like cats and I liked Au. I'm sure that you'll agree that he was a handsome devil and would have been an instant hit with us in Canada. It's never easy and I think that you know that. I think that's one of the reasons my dad got so many of us. He figured they'd find a cure for this sort of thing but in the meantime, him and mom better load up on a few dogs. Crazy man but then again, you might have been thinking the same time with Au, Target and Guido. We wish you peace and tearful smiles Ellen.

Remember when I read the chapter on "The End of An Era" in Katz Tales, I can't help it but tears start welling in my eyes. Again, when I read this article, it's the same feeling and emotion. Both Scoop and Au would always be remembered as the fuzzies who have ruled their servants successfully with their fine velvet paw.

RIP Au ...

Mom Kim here - we have not met through our blogs before but heard about Au's crossing the Bridge from Ann of Zoolatry and wanted to come by. Then something you said really added to my desire to comment - "...something changed in his eyes and body...." A few years ago when I was wrestling with the decision to help my little Angel Oreo cross the Rainbow Bridge, someone once told me that there will come a day when you look into his eyes and there is nothing there - at first I didn't understand but that day did come.
Au was such a handsome kitty - with a gentle look. I am so sorry for your loss.

May Au be with Lolo/Lautrec now...plotting and planning how they will get their chicken fixes. Oh, my heart goes out to you..we have known Au (a cyber knowing!) for so long and we know your pain at his passing. Though it has been over a year since Lolo crossed the bridge, there is not a day that goes by that Mom doesn't think of him and her eyes well up with tears. We know that Lolo no longer suffers, neither does Au, but their departure has left us all sad for they were wonderful characters that will always and forever have their place in our hearts. We send you love, strength and sunshine as well as headbutts and tailwags. Au, my man, you were a wonderful boy..a wonderful boy....thank you for sharing your world with the whole world..thank you for being you and so sweet and loving...may we all meet again some day where rost chikkun is abundant and pain doesn't exist.
